Kansas’s legislation on automotive window tinting states, vehicles are allowed:
- Windshield: Topmost of windshield is allowed, film must not extend past the AS-1 line.
- Driver & Passenger Windows: No darker than 35% VLT.
- Rear Side Door Windows: No darker than 35% VLT.
- Rear Windshield: No darker than 35% VLT.

Laws & Regulations on Film Darkness
Restrictions on darkness for applying film on:
Windshield
Window film is allowed to be installed on uppermost 5 inches of the windshield or to the AS-1 line if marked.
Driver & Passenger Door Windows
Must not have window film any darker than 35% VLT installed on the driver and passenger windows.
Rear Side Door Window
Must not have window film any darker than 35% VLT installed on side windows rear of driver and passenger windows.
Rear Windshield
Must not have window film any darker than 35% VLT installed on rear windshield.

What Is Kansas’s Law on Film Reflectivity
According to §8-1749a, film applied to vehicle on a public roadway must be nonreflective in nature. Highly reflective film will have a mirrored finish and can be potentially blinding to other drivers. Most modern automotive window films are non-reflective in nature and do not cause any road disturbances.

Does Kansas Have Restrictions on The Color of Window Tint
Yes, according to §8-1749a, it is unlawful to have red, yellow or amber colored film installed on a vehicle operating on public roads.

Some states may require the installing company to apply a compliance sticker to validate legality, while others may require you to retain possession of the original receipt proving what was installed.
Does Kansas Have Any Regulations for Compliance
Kansas does not require a compliance sticker or label to be affixed to the vehicle or a receipt to be kept in vehicle.

There are some states that have a window tint tolerance incorporated into the written law. In most cases this is recognized as a plus or minus percentage that is allowed as a fluctuation for the darkness of the installed film and the glass it’s bonded to together.
Does Kansas Have a Recognized Tolerance
Kansas does not have a tolerance for the film and glass when bonded together. The section governing window tint regulations states the total VLT must not be darker than 35%.
Laws & Regulations on Medical Exemptions
There are, in many cases, medical exemptions that can be obtained that state legislation will recognize and waive certain limitations on, including: darkness of film or where film can be applied. This is usually granted to drivers that suffer from severe light sensitivity or other health issues related to direct sunlight or glare.

Yes, Kansas does recognize an exemption for individuals that possess a certification from a licensed physician stating that the individual is required film due to issues caused by the sun or exposure to sunlight.
